Wider Curriculum

Curriculum Information for Parents

What does your child learn at school each day?

From September 2014 a new primary curriculum was introduced into all primary schools. Our aim is to ensure that we provide a curriculum which meets the needs of Maytree children within the framework of the National Curriculum. At Maytree Nursery & Infants School we deliver a broad and balanced curriculum to all our pupils aiming to provide children with a broad range of engaging and stimulating experiences to develop a love of learning. We provide challenge through organising work in a variety of ways, encouraging children to use their initiative and become more responsible for organising their own learning. We also aim to give equal opportunities to all children.

We teach the wider curriculum  through subject specific , inter- connected lessons relevant to our children, looking at our local community and exposing children to the wider world. We provide first-hand learning experiences in order to enrich themes through arranging high quality educational visits or visitors. Oracy is at the centre of all our learning.   We aim to teach children to become confident orators by teaching subject specific language.

The development of the whole child is very important to us and Personal, Social, Health education is provided through using circle time, stories and other class based activities.   We teach children to show tolerance of and respect for the rights of others, democracy through School Council, the rule of law through our Golden Rules, individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance
of those with different faiths and beliefs.  We follow Living Difference, the agreed RE syllabus for Southampton.  For more information, follow this link. http://re.hias.hants.gov.uk/pluginfile.php/2464/mod_resource/content/1/Living%20Difference%20III%20pdf.pdf
