Maytree Nursery and Infant School
PSHE Vision Statement
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) underpins life at Maytree Nursery and Infant School with our school values of ‘caring, sharing, aiming high.’ We believe that nurturing happy and healthy children is central to all aspects of their learning and development and understand that each child is unique. PSHE enables the children within our school to become healthy, independent, caring, respectful and responsible members of our society. Our PSHE curriculum aims to help the children to understand how they are developing personally and socially, and tackles many of the moral, social, cultural and emotional issues that are part of growing up. The children in our school learn about rights and responsibilities and learn to appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society.
Through PSHE teaching during their time at Maytree school, the children grow and develop as individuals and as members of families and communities. Our curriculum equips the children with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes that they need to lead a confident, happy, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens. This will be achieved through practical, active lessons that have a focus on developing discussion and exploration of themes.
Our carefully planned PSHE curriculum embeds three strands that are progressively taught every year: relationships, living in the wider world and health and wellbeing. This was designed with the children in the forefront of our minds starting in Nursery and building upon key concepts every year in order to equip them with the skills needed as they continue their journey into their Junior School years and beyond.
